INSTRUMENTAL INTRO
0:00 – 0:10 – B-Roll Wide shots of the desert landscape
0:10 – 0:17 – Fade into campfire/bonfire. There will be two people sitting at the bonfire. One with a guitar, and one without. I will be both of them, sitting across from myself. Fade onto the vocalist…
VERSE 1
0:17 – 0:23 – Medium shot, focus on vocalist. The top of the campfire flames are flickering out of focus at the bottom of the shot/screen.
0:23 – 0:25 – Shot of other “me” playing guitar around bonfire
0:25 – 0:29 – Back to closer medium shot of the vocalist
0:29 – 0:33 – Shots of Alejandra somewhere close by, playing the bongos in her lap, head down with hair in face while playing perhaps…Who is this mysterious character? Ideally, we will see the light/reflection from the flames nearby.
0:33 – 0:37 – different angled shot of vocalist singing
0:37 – 0:39 – shot of rhythm guitarist at campfire (CLOSE UP)
0:39 – 0:45 – shot of vocalist singing
0:45 – 0:49 – back to Ale bongos shot
INSTRUMENTAL BRIDGE
0:49 -1:20 – Fade into desert shots. For this instrumental sequence, we will film different shots of me walking through the desert in tattered clothes (ripped and faded t shirt, dusty ripped jeans. I am lost. Perhaps tripping? I may encounter other characters or situations here. This 30-seconds is set to establish me lost and exhausted in the desert. A lot of room for great shots here.
CHORUS 1
For this section, I was thinking of maybe a different kind of scene entirely. I am open to ideas. But for now, we can go back to the campfire…..
1:20 – 1:52 – Back to campfire, alternating shots of vocalist, guitarist..and Ale again either in the same spot, or a different spot. I wanna make sure wherever she is we can see the campfire flames reflection still happening. At the end of this section, the camera will be on the vocalist for the last line of the chorus. I will digital zoom into the mouth of the vocalist here, transitioning into the next section.
INSTRUMENTAL BRIDGE
1:52 – 2:08 – Desert walking/b roll shots. At one point I fall to one knee from exhaustion. Here one idea is that I encounter some sort of cactus or edible plant on the ground where I am on my hands and knees. I take a bite? After, I struggle to get up, but do and keep going. This scene is overlaid/crossfaded with close ups of the campfire itself. In the fire, magically appears a dancing silhouette.
VERSE 2
2:08 – 2:13 – camera back on main vocalist singing at campfire
2:13 – 2:17 – camera on dancing silhouette in campfire slowly growing in size
2:17 – 2:21 – cam back on vocalist
2:21 – 2:24 – cam back on fire and/or on another character
2:24 – 2:29 – cam back on vocalist
2:29 – 2:33 – cam back on ale
2:33 – 2:37 – cam back on vocalist
2:37 – 2:40 – shot TBD
CHORUS 2
2:40 – 3:12 – We can either tie back in to the first chorus and keep the campfire shots going, or go back to the desert shots, or something else entirely. This is totally up in the air as of now
INSTRUMENTAL BRIDGE
3:12 – 3:44 – Back to the desert and at this point I’m pretty much crawling on the ground. I’m seeing things/hallucinating. I’m still crawling as I see something in the distance It looks like a visage/mirage of people playing music in the distance — we are moving towards the next scene setup…..
LAST SECTION
3:44 – 4:17 – Dark/nighttime. Outside setup with instruments. I am playing one guitar/amp. Ale on drums. There is an extra amp with an empty guitar next to it.
While we are playing this section live, the other desert wanderer version of me shows up and crawls toward the empty guitar and amp –
4:17 – 4:48 I plug the guitar into the amp and play the lead guitar with the rest of the band (Ale, me on rhythm, and me on lead). Things are going a bit crazy here, visual-wise, editing-wise, etc…
4:48 – 5:04 – Still film the band outside playing this part, but will crossfade/overlay with footage ending up back at the campfire by the end of this section. The music here seems to provide for something really cool/crazy to be happening visually. Maybe the silhouette dancing in the fire is life-size now.
5:04 – END – The characters are siting down again, each basking in a light glow. The shot ends on the vocalist/me who pulls his mask up and eyes turn to static like below.
END – Full screen fades into white/grey static — one other idea at the end I wake up in the desert in the day/morning from my trip… TBD
For as fleshed out and detailed as this might seem, there is so much room for improvement and development. I know once we get there, we will see all kinds of cool stuff, and the ideas for shots and otherwise will be overflowing. I love the cinematography in your videos, and am open to incorporate any ideas you might have. I spoke to Dave who runs the studio, and they have a bonfire, and he said it would be no problem to set up some drums and an amp or two outside. Besides those shots, we just gotta get a bunch of cool walking through the desert shots, and I’m super confident we’ll come up with new ideas as well once we are out there. If you have any time in the coming days or so, it would be super helpful if we could hop on a call or face-time the three of us for a short pre-production meeting/discussion 🙂 I definitely have more ideas I want to run by you, and should tell you more about the song and album just so we are on the same page concept and theme-wise. We have six weeks til I come out there, but it’s always good to have a head start! In the meantime, let me know if you have any ideas or questions…..
